Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for parts of British Columbia, warning that conditions are favourable for storms capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall.
Environment Canada says the storms may significantly reduce visibility and create difficult driving conditions, particularly in low-lying or flood-prone areas.
“When thunder roars, go indoors,” the advisory reminds the public, adding that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
Heavy rainfall may also lead to flash flooding in some areas.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for storms that could produce damaging weather.
Environment Canada urges residents to monitor forecasts and weather alerts closely.
Anyone witnessing severe weather is encouraged to report it by emailing BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or posting on X using the hashtag #BCStorm.
