The City of Cranbrook is preparing to begin several infrastructure projects as part of its 2025 capital works program.
Two of the projects are scheduled to start before the end of May: Phase 2 of the 6 Street South reconstruction and fire protection upgrades for 18 Street South.
Phase 2, handled by Gally Equipment Services Ltd., will build on 2024 improvements by adding new watermains, storm sewers, curbs and sidewalks between 5 and 7 Avenue South.
Gally is also overseeing the 18 Street South fire protection project, which involves installing a fire hydrant to improve safety for homes on 18 and 19 Street South.
That work is expected to begin the week of May 19, following Victoria Day weekend.
Other 2025 projects include Phase 1 of the Victoria Avenue sanitary sewer trunk upgrade, which will replace and upsize the trunk main from 6 Street North to 2 Street North, along with repaving the road.
The city is currently seeking a contractor for this project. Also planned is the desludging of lagoon cells 2 and 3, along with upgrades to improve wastewater treatment.
The McPhee Road active transportation and paving project—partly funded by a $500,000 B.C. Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant—will feature a raised multi-use path and full road replacement from Theatre Road to Industrial Road F.
