The Elkford Childcare Centre and Community Hub is now open to the community.
A gran opening ceremony was held for the new childcare centre Wednesday, June 14, as 30 new licensed child care spaces came available to the community.
Elkford Mayor Steve Fairbairn says the spaces are already being put to use and are being welcomed to the community by residents and employers.
“Its been a long haul, a lot of work has been done and we had the usual supply chain delays that the rest of the world has been enjoying, but yup, its open and its looking good,” Fairbairn says. “This will make a difference to employers and its stable. Its going to be there for a very long time. Its just superb.”
The childcare centre was made possible by converting the former District of Elkford municipal office building for the new use.
Renovations to the property cost over $2-million, with nearly all funding coming through grants and donations from Teck Resources, Columbia Basin Trust and the Provincial and Federal Government.
