The BC Government is throwing their support behind Angel Flight East Kootenay.
The province announced $300,000 in funding to help the local non-profit continue to provide cost-free travel for East Kootenay residents accessing health care services in Kelowna.
Angel Flight President and Founder Brent Bidston says he’s honoured the BC Government is recognizing the work that they are doing.
Bidston says the funding will be provided over two years and will help support their operations.
Some of the funding will go toward improving the aircraft, along with hiring contractors for bookkeeping and administrations.
Bidston says they are currently looking for more volunteer pilots, as a shortage of pilots worldwide continues.
Angel Flight East Kootenay has seen a significant increase in passengers over the past two years, with the number of patients flown growing from 110 in 2021 to 570 in 2022.
