BC Hydro has completed a connection project between Moyie and Cranbrook.
A 4 km extension of a distribution line from Cranbrook to Moyie is now up and running.
Spokeswoman Sally MacDonald says the project was completed early.
“We started the project in April, and it was scheduled to continue throughout the rest of 2019,” MacDonald says. “We actually were able to switch on that line last week, and that puts us a few months ahead of schedule and we’re really pleased with that result.”
MacDonald says the extension of the distribution line will provide better reliability for Moyie customers.
“In case of an outage in Moyie, those customers can be fed from the Steeples Substation in Cranbrook if there’s a problem at the Moyie Substation.”
Previously, the distribution line ended in Lumberton and Moyie customers were fed power from a different direction.
MacDonald expects the final price tag for the project to come in under the its $500,000 budget.
